Certified Nursing Assistant  (Nursing)
DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
Certified nursing assistants (CNAs) aid nursing and medical professionals. They help provide patients with basic care and services, such as assisting frail or disabled people with bathing, getting out of bed, and transporting them to different areas within a facility. They may also provide skin care and take vital signs. They also give patients important social and emotional support.
Mean annual salary for this position is $19,930.
WHERE EMPLOYED:
CNAs can work in many different facilities such as hospitals, long term care facilities, clinics, and home health care.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Must enjoy working with people and understand human nature. Must be able to work well with others and be able to understand and follow directions and orders from doctors and nurses. Must be a good communicator and sensitive to others` needs. Must be comfortable touching people and providing personal care.
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Completion of a qualified CNA training program and passing grade on a certification exam.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Certification programs that are offered through several Middle Tennessee health care facilities, community colleges and vocational or technical schools.
